I believe that students construct knowledge and meaning through their unique experiences. My goal is to cultivate a dynamic learning environment where students actively shape their musical journey and take ownership of their growth. Across lessons, ensembles, and performances, I design experiences that connect to students’ daily lives and personal interests, fostering authentic engagement and a deeper understanding that extends beyond the classroom.
Risk-taking is a cornerstone of my teaching approach. Inspired by my experience as a jazz guitarist, I emphasise the importance of stepping outside one’s comfort zone in the creative process. Whether improvising a solo, composing a new piece, or leading a rehearsal, I encourage students to embrace challenges, view mistakes as opportunities for growth, and develop confidence in their artistic voice.
Self-reflection also plays a vital role in my practice. Just as I guide students in assessing their learning and performances, I continually refine my own approach as an educator and leader, ensuring that our music programmes remain relevant, inclusive, and inspiring.
As a lifelong learner, I am committed to ongoing skill development and creative exploration. I seek innovative ways to make music education meaningful and transformative, empowering both students and teachers to approach learning with curiosity, collaboration, and joy. My ultimate goal is to foster a culture where creativity thrives, critical thinking flourishes, and every student discovers the confidence to express themselves through music.
